The Larry Davis Police Shootout

Who is Larry Davis?
Larry Davis (born May 28, 1966), who changed his name to Adam Abdul-Hakeem in 1989, shot six New York City police officers on November 19, 1986 when they raided his sister's Bronx, New York apartment, allegedly to arrest him on charges of murdering five drug dealers. Davis's defense in the shootings would be that the raid was staged to murder him based on his knowledge of the involvement of corrupt police in the drug business. With the help of family contacts and street friends, he eluded capture for the next 17 days despite a massive manhunt. Once the search was narrowed to a single building, he took several hostages but surrendered to police when the presence of reporters assured him he would not be harmed. His ability to survive the shootout, though outnumbered, and to elude capture in the subsequent massive manhunt gained him near folk hero status in some quarters. Davis was found guilty of weapons possession and murder and is serving 30 years to life in prison [Ref:Wikipedia]

'Jaws' Actor Roy Scheider Died

by FoxNews.com

Roy Scheider, a two-time Oscar nominee best known for his role as a police chief in the blockbuster movie "Jaws," died Sunday. He was 75.

Scheider died at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, hospital spokesman David Robinson said. The hospital did not release a cause of death.

However, hospital spokeswoman Leslie Taylor said Scheider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital's Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years.

He was nominated for a best-supporting actor Oscar in 1971's "The French Connection" in which he played the police partner of Oscar winner Gene Hackman and for best-actor for 1979's "All That Jazz," the autobiographical Bob Fosse film.

However, he was best known for his role in Steven Spielberg's 1975 film, "Jaws," the enduring classic about a killer shark terrorizing beachgoers and well as millions of moviegoers.

Widely hailed as the film that launched the era of the Hollywood blockbuster, it was also the first movie to earn $100 million at the box office. Scheider starred with Richard Dreyfuss, who played an oceanographer.

"He was a wonderful guy. He was what I call 'a knockaround actor,'" Dreyfuss told The Associated Press on Sunday.

"A 'knockaround actor' to me is a compliment that means a professional that lives the life of a professional actor and doesn't' yell and scream at the fates and does his job and does it as well as he can," he said.

In 2005, one of Scheider's most famous lines in the movie _ "You're gonna need a bigger boat" _ was voted No. 35 on the American Film Institute's list of best quotes from U.S. movies.

That year, some 30 years after "Jaws" premiered, hundreds of movie buffs flocked to Martha's Vineyard, off the southeastern coast of Massachusetts, to celebrate the great white shark.

The island's JawsFest '05 also brought back some of the cast and crew, including screenwriter Carl Gottlieb and Peter Benchley, who wrote the novel that inspired Spielberg's classic. Spielberg, Scheider and Dreyfuss were absent.

Dreyfuss recalled Sunday a time during the filming of 'Jaws' when Scheider disappeared from the set. As the filming was on hold because of the weather, Scheider "called me up and said, 'You don't know where I am if they call.'

"He'd gone to get a tan. He was really very tan-addicted. That was due to a childhood affliction where he was in bed for a long time. For him being tan was being healthy," Dreyfuss said.

He added that Scheider "was a pretty civilized human being _ you can't ask for much more than that."

Scheider was also politically active. He participated in rallies protesting U.S. military action in Iraq, including a massive New York demonstration in March 2003 that police said drew 125,000 chanting activists.

Scheider had a home built for him and his family in 1994 in Sagaponack in the Hamptons, where he was active in community issues. The oceanfront house featured five bedrooms, four fireplaces and various decks and porches.

Last summer, Scheider announced that he was selling the home for about $18.75 million to singer-songwriter Billy Joel and was moving to the nearby village of Sag Harbor.

2008 Dodge Challenger

2008 Dodge Challenger Reviews

According to STEVE SILER
First Drive: 2009 Dodge Journey - Previews
The Dodge brand has a history that is long and storied. Unfortunately, it’s a long, storied history full of muscle cars, trucks, and Hemis. And despite plenty of warning, Dodge has been caught woefully unprepared to respond to recent market shifts and governmental legislation, both of which threaten to relegate many of Dodge’s core values to the history books alongside the Coronet, Ramcharger, and Super Bee.

Dodge’s recent car and car-based offerings—yes, including the hot new Challenger—have given us little hope that the brand would get a clue. But just as we started preparing to number Dodge’s days, it has shown us a shiny new crossover called the Journey, ready to do battle in a crowded—but white-hot—market. And it enters with a decent amount of ammo.

According to David
Here Comes the Challenger!
Here are the official photos and production information on the 2009 Dodge Challenger. The final say from Ma Mopar should put an end to all the speculation: production is set for April 21, 2008 and availability should be May or June 2008. The first 5,000 cars will all be SRT8 models with the 6.1 liter Hemi and automatic transmission. Other models will follow, including base models equipped with the 3.5 HO V6. The only down side I can see concerns the available transmissions: the V6 can be had with only a 4 speed automatic. Both HEMI V8s (5.7 and 6.1) will eventually be available with a 6 speed manual. Sorry Mopar junkies, no 4-speed pistol grip option. For the rest of the option list and some killer photos, check out Left Lane News and Allpar.com. The official Dodge site has some pretty cool stuff too, including video of the unveiling.

2008 Dodge Challenger Pricing

Chrysler has already disclosed pricing for the Dodge Challenger SRT8, which will start at $37,995 — including destination — with Dodge already accepting orders. Customers will have a choice of three colors — Black, Silver or HEMI Orange — with all three coming with carbon fiber racing stripes. Deliveries will begin in the spring.

The SRT model will be followed by less expensive models, including V6 and V8-powered models.

The first offering of Challenger SRT8s will come with a numbered dash plaque, with all using an automatic transmission.

Pricing for other Challenger models has yet to be revealed, but an announcement is expected to be made sometime in mid-2008.

2008 Dodge Challenger Performance

Although Dodge has yet to disclose performance numbers on lesser models, it did announce some performance numbers for the 2008 Challenger SRT8 equipped with an automatic transmission. 0-60 will only take 4.9 seconds with the car topping out at about 170 mph.

But in addition the the car's straight line performance, Dodge also emphasized the Challenger's braking and cornering abilities. Massive Brembo brakes squeezing slotted rotors and the car's wide tires — size 245 up front and 255 out back — bringing the Challenger from 60 to 0 in only 120 feet. Additionally, the car can go from 0-100-0 in 16.5 seconds.

Despite the Challenger's muscle-car image, it will handle more like a sports car. According to Dodge, the Challenger SRT8 cirlces the skid pad at .9 g's.
